What if it’s not supposed to be any different than it is?

What if our lives, our bodies, our minds, in this very moment, are exactly as they are supposed to be?

How could everything we’re currently experiencing be happening FOR us, rather than TO us?

My boys, crying, at the same time, highest volume, piercing my ears - how is this happening FOR me, rather than TO me?

Maybe it’s an opportunity to breathe, notice how my body feels, watch the emotions moving all around my body and practise love and compassion for all those cute mouths making ear piercing sounds as well as for those enduring the sounds. 

Lockdown part 1600, no visits with friends, masks, social distancing, no patios or hugging or pool parties - how is this happening FOR me, rather than TO me?

Maybe it’s an opportunity to breathe, pause, allow myself to feel disappointed and angry and frustrated and wish it were different but know that it isn’t and then decide that this next lockdown is going to be the best one yet. 

My mind, talking loudly, wanting to be heard, judging my actions, my future, second guessing, wishing to be different - how is this happening FOR me, rather than TO me?

Maybe it’s an opportunity to listen to my mind, let it talk and write down everything it’s saying to me. To further build a loving relationship with my mind instead of wanting it to hush up and leave me alone. 

You see, our brains are wired to focus on the negative. They are well rehearsed at looking at things happening in the world and interpreting them to mean that something awful is happening and everything sucks. 

That’s completely normal actually. 

Way more normal than it feels. 

But we don’t have to agree with how our brain interprets our lives, our bodies, our minds. 

We get to do that. 

And when we shift our focus from things happening TO us, to things happening FOR us, we get to relax our shoulders, unclench our teeth, sit back and breathe and show up for this chapter of our lives how we really want to.
