It's okay to not be okay...

I have been thinking about all of my beautiful friends who are heading back to school today. I have been thinking about all of the changes that are being made, the many things still up in the air and the complete lack of control.

Some people found out just yesterday that they are teaching completely new grades. Some virtual and some in class. Some still don’t even know what their assignment is. I have so much compassion for all of you incredible human beings who are navigating this very different time. It’s not easy. And it’s okay if you’re not okay right now.

It’s okay to feel scared. It’s okay to feel uncertain. It’s okay to feel nervous and worried and vulnerable. All of these emotions are completely normal and so are you. The presence of these emotions doesn’t mean that something has gone wrong.

What it means is that you are experiencing some big changes in your life right now, in your day to day and you’re having thousands of thoughts a day about these changes. About yourself. About your abilities. About all the unknowns.

And I want you to know you aren’t alone. You aren’t broken. And you don’t need to be fixed.

You are simply having thoughts about things that are happening around you and your beautiful brain is doing what it does best. It’s going to the negative first. It’s focusing on thinking about what you can’t do, the things that will be too hard, and that you just aren’t good enough.

Let your brain go there. Let it share all of these thoughts with you. Let it be okay. Let you be okay.

And then let your brain be wrong about you.

And most importantly, as you embark on this new journey, my hope is that you can find compassion for yourself each and every step of the way.

That you know even in the moments where you don’t know all the answers, you can find safety knowing that no matter what, you will figure it out.

Just like you always do.

Remind yourself that no matter what, you will be okay.

And know that when it’s not easy, which it won’t be, you can do it. You can do hard things.

And if you don’t believe in yourself in this very moment, that’s okay. I believe in you and I will be in your back pocket cheering you on all day today and every day.
